Gong
Gong have released a brand new CD on the UK label Snapper entitled Zero to Infinity. Another pioneering effort featuring Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth and Bloomdidi. It also features reworked versions of Daevid's Wise Man in Your Heart and Tali's Song. Watch for the European tour to support their great new album.
Daevid Allen & Gilli Smyth
Daevid Allen has several projects he is currently involved in. Recently he has formed a new group with some San Francisco musicians. Daevid Allen's University of Errors have a new CD out on Innerspace records entitled Money Doesn't Make It. A cross between Continental Circus and New York Gong. Another CD project Daevid is involved with is Brainville. The new CD entitled The Children's Crusade is released on Shimmy Disc and features Daevid, Hugh Hopper, Kramer and Pip Pyle!!! It's mindbending psychedelic-jazz!!!! Also Daevid Allen & Harry Williamson's 22 Meanings Gliss/meditational CD is emminent for release. Gilli Smyth has a new band called Gongmatrix and is playing some gigs in the US. Oct. 1999 celebrates Gong's 30th anniversary!!!!
Daevid Allen has three new CDs being released on the GAS label - Eat Me Baby, I'm A Jellybean (AGASCD 016): an album of jazz standards sung by Daevid in a bizarre fasion as only he can. Submarine Of Salt: a bizarre impromptu jam one night in San Francisco. 22 Meanings: a new collaboration between Daevid and Harry Williamson. It is the first ever all glissando album!!!
Both Daevid Allen & Gilli Smyth are featured on the new Genesis tribute album The Fox Lies Down. Gong are now discussing the possibilities of a 30th anniversay tour next year - we'll keep you informed!!!
Older Bizarreness
Gong have been very active lately, with continuous gigs and releases by Daevid, Gilli and other Gong family members. The first big news is the addition of legendary drummer Piere Moerien (Gong, Oldfield) to the current Gong line-up. Gong will be touring France from April 30 to May 15th. Also Daevid and Gilli will be playing one-off solo gigs in the UK throughout May. New CD releases include Daevid Allen's Eat Me Baby, I'm A Jellybean. An album on which he quirkily reworks and sings classic jazz standards! Backed by Bloomdido and jazz drummer Ndugu. Also Daevid and Harry Williamson are working on an all glissando album called Aeolia. Forthcoming release is Gong - Family Jewels, a double CD of solo and collective efforts from Gong members.
