2003 Messages to Mitch Mitchell
CommentsMitch, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I wish you the best in health and happiness. You have brought me great memories and I remember jammining with my buddys in high school. One of our favorites to play was "fire" The most ingeneous back beat ever produced in my opinion was "Manic Depression". Good Luck and hope to see a news clip regarding your return to music. David http://www.daviddouglaswright.com
CommentsHi Mitch I am a jazz/improvising saxophonist that has played and recorded many duets with jazz drummers. I've loved your playing for years. I would like to know if you would be interested in doing a duo. I can send you some cds so you can have a listen. Wishing you all the best Paul Dunmall.there is a website www.mindyourownmusic.co.uk
CommentsWell, Mitch, I can understand your wanting to be left the hell alone. I feel that way at my age too! But, you are the last member of, "The Experience." And really one of the finest drummers ever! Jimi complimented you as you did him. My favorite of your drumming is on the song, "May this be love." I can't put into words what this music has meant in my life. Let's just say I love Jimi and you for giving it to the world. With my heart I say thank you...
CommentsHey Mitch You are too young to retire. I met you guys when I lived in Michigan. Debby Bolen
CommentsHey Mitch , lets see more of you in the public eye, for us old timers, Take care Adam Winkler 73s
CommentsMitch please come play in my band... www.lekmusic.com
CommentsWe love you Mitch !! The Hendrix recordings would not have come out the way they did without you !!!! J.P. Boynton Beach Fl.
CommentsHello Mitch, hope all is well with you. Thanks for all the sounds for all these years, I've gotten a lot of mileage out of them. I would like to ask a favor of you. I caught a drumstick from you when Ramatam was playing in Dallas in 73(?)with Humble Pie and was hoping for an autograph to go with it in the frame. Possible? Anyway, thanks again and take care.
CommentsMitch, Retired from music! Never! It's in your blood man. Do you know how much you mean to the public? I've been a fan for 33 years and have just spent 2 hours surfing the net to try to find a way to contact you to ask for an autograph! Your drumming with Jimi was tight and solid(I don't live Today etc)and I believe very influential. My only disappointment was that I never saw you live but I don't think you toured Scotland too much. I am going to see Peter Green in Dundee soon and I truly hope that I'll get the chance one day to see you in concert. I wish you all the best.
CommentsDear Mitch My name is Rick Doten and I am with a Funk band in the USA. Recently I read an article written by a man named Ron Russell. This man claims to have been a friend of both Jimi and Martin Luther King. This person has written an article that is so terrible, about you, that I feel this man needs to be stopped. What he has written is located on the attached website. I didn't know how to get this information to you, so I contacted Buddy Miles, who suggested that I try to email you the link to Ron Russell's site. http://www.cafebeat.org/ronrussell/The_Truth.htm Mitch this man is making some disgusting accusations about you and Jimi, and I really feel that he needs to be stopped. As a musician I feel that the legacy that you, Jimi and Noel left is a historical treasure, and I won't sit idly by and let some con man damage the good that you and the Experience brought to the world. Please do what you can to stop Ron Russell. Sincerely. Rick Doten Minneapolis, Minnesota
CommentsHey Mitch. I know you must get tired of all this stuff you have probably heard for the last 30+ years, but just remember you guys produced one HELL of a lot of fun and happiness for a lot of people, and though that, along with a 25 cent piece will get you a local telephone call most places in the US, they can't take that away. That accomplishment is more than 98% of the rest of us will make. You guys will have had a much greater impact of society than you probably care to think about. But still, if you are ever really skint, you can crash at my place in Dallas for free. I will just charge admission for home tours. Take care. Doug
CommentsHi Mitch! Just thought I would drop you a note. I'm a fan of yours (from Houston, Texas) and was wondering if you are OK and doing well. You're the best best jazz/rock drummer ever from the UK...bar none, and I remember your performance in Houston when you and Jimi played with "Band of Gypsies" in 1970. WOW, what a great performance! Only the best drummers can hold together a great rythm section. You, Charlie Watts, Ginger Baker, Frank Beard (ZZ Top), Buddy Miles, Ringo, Buddy Rich, and a few others can do this. I wish you all the best, and hope that you will continue your dreams and ambitions as a performer and continue to inspire those aspiring to achieve success with percussion instruments. Kind regards, Philip Pennington Houston, TX 713-541-0987
CommentsHello Mitch. I was lucky enough to just happen to buy a used van from you several years ago. Just wanted to say, that although I am a guitarist, I drummed to your tracks many many times as a kid. My sons are currently giging and recording. We carry their drums and band equipment in your van and always have a fun time telling the story. Best of luck and thanks for some of the greatest music every recorded. Joe
CommentsHi Mitch please e mail me i need any address to send you some musical stuff you'll be very happy to hear Uzi
CommentsMitch, you are the single greatest influence on my drumming, and I want to thank you for all the happiness you have brought me through your music, sincerely-Tom Zimmerman PS-If you wrote back, it would make my life!!!
CommentsHello Mitch, First I want to say that I have enjoyed your playing over the years and heard you at Madison Square Garden in 1968 ('69?), The Singer Bowl in Queens and at Woodstock. I am doing research on Jimi Hendrix, and I need to know the time he was officially pronounced dead. I know the date, Sept. 18, 1970 in London. I read in Jimi Hendrix, Inside the Experience, 1990, Harmony Books, a book that you published on Jimi Hendrix that states two different times: 11:25 AM (page 174) and 12:15 PM (Page 160). Is it possible to know which of those two times is the correct one, and what is the source, newspaper article or official document? Very sincerely yours, Amir Bey
CommentsHi Mitch I have a lot to say to you, but the music will do that better please give me any address to send you this wavs I know you will love it I wish you well Uzi

CommentsYou and I share the January 9 experience. I wish you continued success with it. Do you have any plans to make more of your fusion work available to the public? I, for one, would very much like to hear your work with Larry Coryell and Jeff Berlin. I mean no disrespect to the legend of Jimi, but I find music with the energy of rock and the intelligence of jazz more personally fulfilling. Please respond. -Eric Rogers in Troy,NY
Commentsdear mitch is there an address where i cuold send you somthing that you definitely need to hear? arie

I hope your days are filled with peace. May God watch over you and yours. Dave (Berkeley, California)

CommentsI saw you with Randy Hansen at the Cubby Bear in Chicago in 1985. Far cry from Monterey or Woodstock, but got your gracious autograph signed: "Wayne, best witches, Mitch Mitchell" on my Are You Experienced Album. I have that framed now. Got a chance to talk after the sound check. You were awsome. Everyone came to see you. None left dissappointed. Thanks for the best rock drumming ever !!!!!! wayne kusy
CommentsYoure sill a constant inspiration in my drumming . Hope ill get the chance to see you live one day (in AUSTRIA hehe)
Commentsno doubt about it, the day you picked up sticks with Hendrix was a glorious musical moment indeed. much happiness to a guy who's certainly given me a bunch.
CommentsHi John! Some months ago I red about "The dirty Mac", now I'm very keen to get some non-Experience stuff I can listen to your drumming. Best wishes for future... Simon another Mitchell-influenced drummer
CommentsMitch- Just a note to say that you were in the thoughts of many of the tens of thousands of people who passed through the Experience Museum tour this past weekend at the Riverhead Blues Festival (L.I.) I had the honor of meeting you once (at Stony Brook Univ on L.I.) in '67..you were very gracious. When you have new recorded material available, I think today's college radio programmers would be very interested in hearing it..I work with the non-profit national college radio station organization (IBS) and I'd love to help you get the word out. Regards- Norm Prusslin WUSB-FM, Stony Brook, L.I. NY IBS College Radio
CommentsMitch I think alot of us fans would love to see you playing live again. We all admire your musicianship, and many of us have never had the chance to meet or hear you play. Please reconsider being part of the current scene. Rob.
CommentsI have an original poster/flyer from the San Antonio show. I'd like to see it get to the right people. Somebody help me !

CommentsIm a 17 yr old drummer from wichita Falls, Youre The Greatest. James Divine
CommentsMitch, Whatever it is that you are doing, it seems to be fairly agreed upon that music seems to choose it own for life although some do manage to spend reasonable time away. If that's what you are up to hope you are having a go of it and some fun too. And we will be waiting for your next release or show. If you decide you want to do some work in New England, USA, give us an email shout out here. We have a great act that is fantastic at supplying the opening show and then stays on stage for the feature show witht he bigger star (that would be you). This act, "Tommy and the Rivieras" had some minor hits themselves in the Northeast and have toured with the Beach Boys and many others. In fact one bloke that I'm sure you know who is in the Rock n Roll Hall of fame (hint: his band had a number one hit and was in there with the Beatles and Stones as part of the "British Invasion") is considering this opportunity to make some $$ as it is very easy for him to do. He just shows up and plays 10 songs and did not really even have to rehearse the band at all. (Kind of a Chuck Berry type of gig. Chuck just shows up, plays and gets back in his car and is off with the $$). Check us out at www.ActiveEntertainment.US booking@ActiveEntertainment.US
CommentsMitch, email me or call me to record some music. Get a hold of Jack Bruce and lets get in the studio ASAP. Sorry to hear about Noel. Tempus Fugit! Thanks, Mike

CommentsMitch, I hope you and Noels's friends and family are doing well. I've been a fan of yours since the age of thirteen (I'm now thirty-five). I sicerely believe that you are one of the most-if not the most- innovative drummer in rock history. i would really like to know with who and when you will be drumming again. My favorite peices from you are Manic Depression and Gypsy Eyes not to mention One Rainy Wish... Please take care of youself and I hope to hear a response... ...peace...
CommentsMitch, This is your old Pocklington Hall (BFC-June 1997) room-mate Bill Potts, from Mission Viejo California. Dr. Mike Farrell fell, (crazy Mike-the Doctor...), and is a quad plegic, living with wife in Coto de Caza. I've stayed out of trouble a little over 5 years. I hope your life is going well. I've been meaning to write, but just haven't. Then I dicided to go looking for you and found this site. I'd love to hear how it's going. If you come to Southern California, you've always got a place to stay. I talk to Eddie Dies every year...still doing well. Good luck to you my friend. Bill Potts
CommentsMr. Mitchell I am a DJ at WLRA radio at Lewis University in Romeoville IL. I would like to extend an invitation to you to do a short telephone or email interview with me. Your music is extremely popular on my show and it would be an honor for me to be able to discuss your music and career with you. Please let me know if you are interested. Karen Donohue

CommentsHello Mitch, I am currently researching a book about vintage effects pedals, and I'm wondering if you have any knowledge of the Curse of the Octavia; and if you were acquainted with someone named Steve Morris, who may have done work on Jimi's equipment. Now that Noel is gone, you may be the only one in the world with this information. Best regards, Analog Tom
CommentsMitch, Its Deering, contact me at deerbars@aol.com
CommentsI've just heard the tragic news, and I have no words that would hold relevant to you, so I'll hold it at that. Just hearing about it has in a strange way affected me. I'm only 15, and I'm now regretting that I'll never be able to see him live. It is for this reason that I am I extremely want to hear you live. Your my favorite person in the world music. Your drumming with the Experience is innovative and incredible. There's something about you that is cool as hell; maybe it's your awesome hair in Rainbow Bridge, lol. Anyways, take time to grieve... and please rock once more.
CommentsMitch, I'm not sure of your contact with Noel resently....but I would like to give my deepest sympathies to you and his family. I have listened to his interviews and have always been interested in the guy who got hired, "Because of his hair-haha". I regret not getting not getting on a plane to Ireland to see him in the clubs. He seemed to be a very unique individual and must have been great to play with. Retirement is a great thing... I am 34 and looking forward to it. Why I am emailing is because a friend told me of the news about Noel today. We often discuss the Jimi's work. I always want to be careful when I say Jimi's work because I have heard just Jimi play solo - and he was a genius. But, there are many genius' in the world who get up and do what ever they are great at and no one ever knows who they are. Recognition: is a funny thing - it's something that can fuel an ego, annoy the quiet or meek or really insult someone who desires it. So, I did want to let you know great you are - because I have always wanted to. Let's call it my own selfishness, but when I watch the DVDs and listen to the jams - I wonder how great it would have been to be Mitch Mitchell right there and then. All of the things that you have done in the past and present remain as a testament. I know there have been many people have say "You have influenced me and I think that you are the greatest drummer...". They mean it. I am not a drummer, I try to play guitar - it's more a of a relaxation than I a - I have to become famous. That's kind of a cop out, but hey I don't want all the hassles and bullshit that you have to put up with. I just wanted to let you know that I appreciated your time keeping and contributions with Hendrix. I know your peers feel the same way. It would not have been the same without you. Thanks for all of the time that you put it. I hope for you that you know it was all worth it. I know that when 99% of the population listens to a JHE record they only hear or listen to Jimi. But, there are people who know who Mitch Mitchell is. They keep being born every year. Keep working, when you feel like it, there are many of us who can't get enough of hearing about 1967-1970 (books and articles) and whatever you are doing (future recordings and appearances). Well, I do hope this reaches you and I would be more than honored by a response - but one is not necessary. Thanks, Craig
CommentsMitch, Ian Wallace is worried about you. Send him a message at ian@ianrwallace.com and let him know that you're doing alright (or...not alright). Thanks, Barry Stock
CommentsDear Mitch, I'm a young fan at the age of 14 and about to get a set myself and first i'd like to say that I have been listening to The Jimi Hendrix Experience and all of hendrix stuff for a while and I must say how much it has influenced me. I also would like to say that i am very sorry to hear about Noel i'll miss him as will you.......finally I'd like to say that I've looked up to you(and a couple other drummers) as pioneer rock drummers that have revolutionized music to this day .....hope to here you soon
CommentsI dont think that I was really aware of the potential that a drum kit has as an individual expresive instrument or indeed alternative time signatures, jazz style, crossover and fusion, until I started listening to JHExp music. Of course it was the work of the cunning, flighty maverick - Mitch. Vsad about Noel. You take good care of yourself whatever you want to do these days. Cheers Graham (Edinburgh)
CommentsHi Mitch, You're one of the best drummers ever, glad to have this opportunity to say hello and first say we're sorry to hear about Noel. I also would like to see you at the Detroit Hard Rock Cafe. Steve
CommentsDear Mitch I was very sad to hear the news about Noel. You 3 were the best together. My deepest sympathies and please keep playing Joe Shane
CommentsHi, I never knew about this.. a way to contact Mitch? Well, if this does reach Mitch, good luck with everything. I don't know if you're aware of my website, but have a look if you get the chance. Take care! Azar http://listen.to/mitchell A Tribute to Mitch Mitchell
CommentsHi Mitch, Like to wish you all the best. Hope though, to hear you playing again soon. Maybe do some jazzstuff at fi north sea jazzfestival Hope your life is OK. Andre
CommentsDear Mr. Mitchell, Find your space, enjoy it and come back to performance when, if and/or how you like. I could carry on about being "another" mixed race left-handed guitarist, a fan, etc, etc. - but, in the end, music is what matters. To make the world a better place is all we can strive for - through music or otherwise. Alex van Starrex 1 April, 2003.
Commentsmitch, brother you are the ultimate drummer. noone has held a candle to your work with jimi and beyond. i would have never picked up a set of drumsticks if i hadnt seen a copy of jimi plays monterey. your playing was the first thing that i noticed. bombarding all over the place and not missing a beat. youve got it and always will have it. keep on keepin on brother and dont let the scene right now get you down in any way. because real people know real music when they hear it and see it. when it comes around the stuff that you played on will be on top. peace kirk russell
CommentsI love you Mitch, you taught me ALL my best chops and made a great drummer out of me. I can color the music for ANY guitar player thanks to you. 39 year old Johnny Dawg from San Francisco.
CommentsHey brother, email me soon as you are able would like to discuss some things with you wasami
CommentsMitch, I just want to say thank you for the music! You are without doubt one of the greatest drummers I have ever heard - your style may be copied by others but never beaten! I want to take this opportunity to wish you the best of luck in your retirement. - Ian
CommentsHi, my name is Andreas Hedler. I'm the webmaster of The Official WISHFUL THINKING Website (http://explode.to/wishfulthinking). I got informations from two former members of Wishful Thinking, that Mitch Mitchell parted as (session) drummer in the band! First he played with a band called The Lively Set in the early 60ies, but does not release a record with them. The guitarist from The Lively Set, Terry New, later joined Wishful Thinking for their first 4 singles. Later in 1967 Mitch played drums on the Wishful Thinking single "Count To Ten" (their third 45). Has anyone a contact address from Mitch for me to try to contact him to ask about these old times? Please help me! :-)
Commentswhats up Mitch, just wanna let you know you are the biggest inspiration in the music world to me, just wondering if you could let me in on any of your practice routines, and what your up to these days, and have you ever thought of putting out a drum video? that would be so sweet! Anthony, MA
CommentsJust been watching a couple of experience mpgs on the net ........ I wondered what had happened to Mitch Mitchell .... You know Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin rated Mitch as a great drummer.... Would to say thanks for the music...... (Will put my hotmail address as I don't want web bots taking my email)
CommentsYou are a true inspiration and your style is loved by so many people, thanks Mitch
CommentsMitch! your drumming is the coolest EVER no one is even close, period. Play on Drummer...
CommentsDear Mitch, The Experience were a great band in a great era, pioneering musical changes, maybe it is better to be part of so much in so short a time, than never to have been there?...good luck,Keiron,Sean and Debbie X
CommentsMitch,I salute you always !! The "Experience" could have never sounded as good as it did without you, make no mistake about it !!!! In 1968 "Are You Experienced" rocked my world because that was the year I first heard it,I was never the same after. You deserve a serious amount of credit man !! Best of luck to you whatever is going on with you and I hope you make it to south Florida sometime.
J.P. Morel,Boca Raton, Florida
CommentsMitch! You are the best! Jimi would be proud of you man.
Commentseven though I'm not sure you're decision to step back from music is caused by a negative experience (hearing problem, sickness or so) I wish you lots of luck in the future. You're drumming and music has been great inspiration for me (as for so many others) over the years. learning how to listen and compose during a song for one. after reading you're book I got into a couple of drummers you mentioned in it Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, max roach, Philly Joe , and many others. I don't listen to Hendrix as much as I used to, but every once in a while when playing a tune it hits me that without you're (indirect) help, I wouldn't be doing what I do today : Improvising, performing, adding colours to songs thanks again and good luck with you're new road. Emanuel, Amsterdam
CommentsMitch, You cant imagine the contribution your playing and ability has meant to me..... Your constant talent and heart felt playing on so many great recordings are really a part of my life and so many lives i think....... you guys were stars before they knew how to mass market it like they do today and cheapen it in so doing.... in particular your spirit shines through as much as anybody in the business...... I wish you the best in all future endeavors. dan mccann bomp@earthlink.net
Commentshey Mitch! you are so cool! I love you very much! I adore you! it will be so cool if you could answer mails! my world would be perfect! unfortunately I have depressions and stay for 10 weeks in a hospital! my life is so bad at the moment! if you answer my mails, it would be a new great sense in my life:) I practice so much on my drums till I can play like you! so, you're the best, fuck the rest! peace & love Jacky
Commentshi Mitch !! on the contrary I'm glad you take some time off to chill out, I'm strange cause I'm french should be the title of my next song, well I've gotta nothing relevant to say except this question: have you heard of Tomas Patris, he's my drummer's drumming teacher , he kicks ass ,sho thing! oh by the way, our band 's called mycelium ( www.mycelium.info) come check it out! dig, there's a jam tonight at the citea ( paris 11) keziah jones might around again! ps: hey! I won again at " walkin' the bottles" you know that game from Yorkshire, it's muck or nettles ( old Yorkshire expression) bye mate the blue nun appreciation society
CommentsMitch, I love you a a musician, you are so unheralded, and Jimi would never have blossomed and "experienced" all that he did, without you. Fate? Yes. I can't be more sincere, and must tell you that I salute you daily. I'm a guitarist and wish I could find a drummer like you! I listen to Jimi and you daily. From my heart, thank you, and that doesn't come close to showing my gratitude for all of the joy you've given me, inspiration, awe, and the respect I have for you is without rival. All the best, and God Bless you. Mike Burns NJ USA
CommentsIt took me quite a while, to realize how much You contributed to the sound of J.H.Experience.... But that is very clear, whenever you try to play a Hendrix tune, (being a guitar player myself...) THE DRUMS ARE ALWAYS WRONG!!! I want to thank You for the inspiration!! (spanning over 30 years) If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be playing.... I wish You all the best! Micke Hujanen Sweden
CommentsShort and to the point: You're sorely missed. I am at present in correspondence with Jools Holland - in an attempt to involve you in one of the annual drum off's (if interested). There are too many amateurs who have appeared on that show. It would be a pleasure to hear a natural seat of your pant's drummer for a change. Do you still play / practice much? What was in your opinion your favorite / best performance - Live? I wish you all happiness in the future and would like you to know that even if we (me) didn't know Jimi - we all miss him. All the best - Fraser McInnes
CommentsMitch, good luck! you were and still are a huge influence in my playing. sincerely, Carl Canedy the rods www.carlcanedy.com
